We are spotlighting Miriam Song, our PBC Operations Manager!
Ever-passionate about food, Miriam received her degree in nutrition science at Georgia State University. This is where she began as a part-time coordinator for our Produce Education & Enjoyment Loop: “PEEL was a great first-hand experience. I got to make a lot of fun recipes and meet amazing people through it.”
Now, Miriam helps lead the Produce Buyer’s Club, our large-scale produce diversion program. Her favorite aspect of her role is getting to share the abundance!
“We are surrounded by so much food with limited access. Fresh produce is not prioritized during times of economic hardship due to its cost and perishability. It’s the first food item to go during these times. PBC fills these gaps. We receive so much produce and I love seeing all these quality fruits and vegetables being passed throughout our communities.”
Furthermore, Miriam resonates the most with our core value of community. She says, “We would not be able to accomplish half of what we have if it weren’t for our amazing community, including all of our wonderful staff and community partners who continue to support us.”
Her favorite CJ memory is helping out at a Norcross muscadine pick with her friends and family. Her produce of choice is cabbage because of its versatility. Outside of work, you can find her baking sourdough bread and hanging out with her two lovely cats, Ryuk and Sammy.
